Greater Milford Community Chorus Brings Joy this Season

Write your By Jennifer Russo

The Greater Milford Community Chorus (GMCC), a group of talented singers from Milford and surrounding towns, is excited to celebrate the holiday season this month with festive songs for all to enjoy. From well-known song medleys sure to get you singing along, to traditional pieces like the Wexford Carol, some classic Hannukah songs, and more contemporary pieces like “Welcome Christmas” from Dr. Seuss’ charming movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the performance is great for all ages and sure to delight attendees and evoke the spirit of the upcoming holidays.

Concluding its Golden Jubilee year and celebrating 50 years of singing for the community, the GMCC offers both a Spring show and a Winter show annually, each centered around a theme – this upcoming concert is themed around the song Joyful, Joyful – an adaptation of Beethoven’s composition, Ode to Joy, featuring the words of a poem written by Henry J. van Dyke, published in 1911. Religious themes aside, the song is about welcoming light into our hearts, a feeling that the chorus hopes the audience will leave with as they head into the rest of their December celebrations.

“Joyful is just how we want our audience to feel when they head out after our performance. Our members each bring various and individual strengths to the group and our music is really all about bringing people together. After months of challenging work, we all look forward to joining our community for an evening or afternoon of peace and joy,” shares Susan Surapine, GMCC President.

“It’s great to see our audience members celebrating along with us - their friends, family, and neighbors – as we sing for them. It’s all about that beautiful connection with everyone through music.”

The GMCC, under the direction of Mark Schiappucci, will perform at Milford Town Hall on Saturday, December 2nd at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, December 3rd at 1:30 p.m.. Tickets are $12 at the door and children ten and under are welcome for free. There will be exciting raffle baskets to win, and refreshments served. Additionally, the group will be performing with the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra for their Holiday Pops concert on Saturday, December 9th at 7:30 p.m. here...
