Event to Feature Regional Planning Leaders from CNU New England

Franklin, MA - Building Equitable Neighborhoods for Franklin (BEN for Franklin) will host its fourth annual Jane Jacobs Walk through downtown Franklin on Saturday, May 2, 2026, continuing a growing local tradition that invites residents to experience their community through a planning and design lens.

This year’s walk will be joined by planning professionals from Congress for the New Urbanism New England (CNU New England), bringing a regional perspective to the conversation around how Franklin’s downtown can continue to evolve as a vibrant, walkable, and connected place.
Jane Jacobs Walks are held around the world each year in honor of urbanist Jane Jacobs, whose work emphasized the importance of people-centered design, active streets, and strong neighborhood fabric. The Franklin walk offers a chance for residents, local leaders, and visitors to explore downtown together, share observations, and discuss opportunities for thoughtful growth and improvement.

Participants will follow a guided route of approximately one mile through downtown, stopping at key locations to reflect on topics such as housing, public space, economic activity, and how different parts of Franklin connect. The event is designed to be informal and accessible; no planning background is required. Wheels and furry friends are welcome.
