A Solemn Farewell in Franklin

Officers filed into St. Mary Parish in Franklin for Officer LaPorta’s funeral, although the majority who attended could not fit inside. Audio of the service was played outside on the Town Common as well as behind St. Mary School.

On Thursday morning, January 15th, members of police from all over the state, as well as state and local officials, firefighters, and loved ones bid a fond and fitting farewell to 43-year-old Uxbridge Police Officer Stephen LaPorta, who, tragically, was struck by a tractor trailer while responding to a call for help from a motorist. Hundreds, if not over 1,000, turned out to honor LaPorta and offer condolences to his family, including his wife, Shannon, and son, Matthew.
