Sophia Seremetis Awarded Franklin Rotary Simmler Scholarship

Franklin Rotary President Rick Power is shown here with Simmler scholarship recipient Sophia Seremetis and Marsha Simmler.

The Rotary Club of Franklin MA and the family of Robert W. Simmler, are proud to name Sophia Seremetis, as the first recipient of the Robert W. Simmler / Rotary Club of Franklin, MA Scholarship 2021.
“On behalf of myself and our sons Christopher and Jason,” Marsha Simmler speaking to Sophia, “we are very happy for you!”
A brief history about Bob Simmler; a Franklin High School graduate Class of 1950 and life-long resident of Franklin, Bob graduated from Boston College with his undergraduate and then went off to Georgetown Law, as he admired the Jesuit way of teaching. After earning his Master’s Degree in Law at Boston University, Bob served his country in the US Army as a legal clerk, where he received a certificate of commendation. Upon returning to Franklin, he opened his law partnership and practiced law for more than 50 years until retirement.
Bob was devoted to his family, fellow Rotarian’s and in his service to others. “Perhaps the Jesuits who taught him, helped to carve his path?” said Marsha. “We hope that wherever your future leads you (Sophia), that you find a similar journey of serving others too.”
In addition to his service to the community, Bob was a longtime, dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Franklin MA, having served for many years in various capacities, as well as Rotary Club President. Since 1905, the Rotary Club’s motto is “Service Above Self”. That was how Bob lived and the reason why the Simmler family chose to honor Bob’s memory by supplementing over two-thirds of the Rotary’s Annual Scholarship, bringing the annual scholarship award to $3000.
After the Rotary received Sophia’s first semester transcripts, Sophia received her award at a luncheon in her honor at the Rome Restaurant, on April 23, 2022.
“We wish you, health, happiness and fulfillment in whatever career path you choose and know that Rotary will welcome you, anywhere in the world.” said Rotary President, Rick Power.
