Advancing Cancer Research: Local Operating Engineers Union Donates $100,000 to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4, which has 24 members from Bellingham and 20 members from Franklin, announced a $100,000 donation from their charitable foundation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The donation, which was raised during the Union’s 4th annual golf outing will assist the Institute’s pediatric and adult cancer care and research.
The Operating Engineers Charitable Foundation, Inc. follows the Local’s long track record of supporting community and national organizations. The union has historically donated millions of dollars to organizations across Massachusetts and New England. This donation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute recognizes the groundbreaking cancer research and the non-profit’s distinguished leadership in making life-changing breakthroughs in cancer patient care.
“Local 4 is proud to support the work of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,” said Local 4 Business Manager Bill McLaughlin. “Cancer has affected many in our communities, including our membership and our families. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute does commendable work in preventing, treating, and defying cancer by accelerating revolutionary science, and providing extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities. Local 4’s membership is committed to improving the lives of our communities. We are hopeful that with this contribution, the Institute will be able to continue its mission to provide life-saving treatments to cancer patients.”
“This gift is a testament to Local 4’s commitment to our community,” said Suzanne Fountain, Vice President, The Jimmy Fund. “At Dana-Farber, we serve hundreds of thousands of new patients every year. This contribution will be critical in our work to pursue bold visions and creative methods to treat cancer and serve our patients and their families.”
Local 4 has a long history of giving back to the communities where they live and work and has been able to support charitable organizations and causes across New England for decades. Some of the causes Local 4 supports include food banks, homeless shelters, veterans groups, ALS, substance abuse, and more. In January, Local 4 also donated $5,124 to the Maine-based, veterans organization, House in the Woods.
