Franklin Senior Center Hosts Drive-In Sing-Along

Dec 31, 2020 12:51PM ● By Judy O'Gara
Franklin Senior Center staff and volunteers, a top-notch soprano singer and even Franklin TV braved a frigid day out in the open air of the senior center parking lot, all in an effort to bring some holiday cheer to local seniors.
On December 16th, the Franklin Senior Center hosted a drive-in holiday sing-along. The featured artist, Monica Anderson Spencer, sang aloud, while folks listened from the safety of their vehicles, tuning into a local station to listen with windows closed. Ms. Spencer, soprano, has performed with the SpeakEasy Stage Company, the Heritage Chorale, Enter Stage Left, Opera Southwest, the Goldovsky Opera Institute Summer Workshop, the Wolf Trap Opera Training Program, the Nevilla Ottley Singers, the Joffrey Ballet, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, the Oscar Micheaux Theatre Program and with jazz greats Donald Byrd, Max Roach and Oscar Brown, Jr.
Attendees, who were supplied with lyrics to popular holiday tunes, were treated to greetings by none other than Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as hot cocoa, cookies and candy canes. Applause for Ms. Spencer came in the form of honks and beeps from the audience’s cars.
